Meeting Information

All Council, Committtee and Community Board meetings are advertised in the Ruapehu Bulletin and Ruapehu Press around the middle of the month preceding the meeting (Ie, February meetings are advertised in January, etc). Sub-committee meetings and working party meetings are not required to be advertised.

Council, Committee and Community Board meetings are conducted under NZS 9201:2003 (Model Standing Orders for Local Authorities). the Local Government Act, the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act and specific Acts relating to Hearings, as appropriate.

Council Meetings

Meetings are held from February to November and on the third Tuesday of December, in the Council Chamber at the Taumarunui or Ohakune Office. From time to time, Council meetings will be held in other locations, such as local marae. Two Council meetings are held each month, as follows:

  • A meeting to consider Finance and Policy matters will be held in the Council Chamber, Taumarunui, on the second Tuesday commencing at 10.00am. There is no Public Forum or Deputations at this meeting.
  • A meeting to consider other Council business, and which contains Public Forum and Deputations, will be held on the fourth Tuesday, commencing at 10.00am in either the Taumarunui or Ohakune Council Chamber.

Public Attendance at Meetings

Members of the public and Press are welcome to attend the public parts of Council, Committee and Community Board meetings. Following normal meetings, any public-excluded business will be attended to and the public and the Press are requested to leave the meeting.

If you wish to speak at a meeting, please contact the Team Leader Governance on 07 895 8188 at least two weeks prior to the meeting.

  • Public Forum - A Public Forum is scheduled at the beginning of the second Council meeting of the month (fourth Tuesday), and at Community Board and Ward Committee meetings. Members of the public have up to ten minutes to speak to Council on any matter.

  • Deputations - Deputations (ie, people wishing to speak to an item on the Agenda) are normally scheduled immediately after the Public Forum section of the meeting (see above) and up to ten minutes are allowed for each deputation.

Members of the public are not permitted to speak at any other time during meetings, unless invited to do so by the Chairperson.
