The District Plan Review

The Ruapehu District Plan needs to be reviewed and changed because it was written at a time when the resource management issues facing the District were quite different to now and there was less pressure on land/property development. It is also a requirement under the Resource Management Act 1991 for district plans to be reviewed within ten years of first becoming operative.

Council initiated a review of the operative District Plan in 2006 and started initial consultation with stakeholders at that time. Since 2006, Council has worked through the issues raised in initial consultation to develop a draft version of the District Plan. The review has been done on an issue driven basis and there are several parts of the Plan where there are no or only minor draft changes.

What Does this Mean for You?

The Plan will be formally notified for public submissions early in 2010.  When this happens the ‘draft’ will become the ‘proposed’ Plan.
