State Highways and local roads throughout the Central Plateau and Waimarino remain closed and snow clearing will recommence in the morning.
Council is optimistic that roads will open tomorrow afternoon.
In the interim people are asked to avoid driving.
When the roads do reopen there will still be very difficult driving conditions.
Even if the road is open, if in their estimation, it does not look safe to drive, or they are not experienced in driving in these conditions, they should make the wise decision not to drive.
All water plants are back in production after being off-line due to the power outages however people should continue to conserve water.
Sewerage pumping stations have also been off-line due to the power outages and have been overflowing and as a precaution public are advised to stay clear of open drains and waterways.
