Visit Ruapehu is the Regional Tourism Organisation for the the Ruapehu District with the role of growing the volume and value of domestic and international visitors to Ruapehu in a sustainable way
Sustainable tourism growth that is supported by Ruapehu communities is a key objective of Council's economic development strategy with Visit Ruapehu having a critical role in its implementation. This includes managing tourism development and its opportunities to help ensure that tourism activity benefits all Ruapehu communities.
As well as its role as the destination marketer for Ruapehu it has a leadership role in support of regional tourism development. This involves working with Government, agencies, Iwi and the wider tourism sector to unlock and deliver tourism and visitor opportunities for Ruapehu and the region.
Since COVID-19 Visit Ruapehu has expanded its function into assisting Ruapehu tourism operators to survive and thrive in the new post-COVID environment. This has included providing opportunities for operators to gain the necessary digital skills to compete online.
