Efforts to repair the Taumarunui pool seem to have been successful to a point where Council is confident that it can be opened for public use.
Over the coming week treatment of the water and other opening preparations will get underway to enable the pool to open by the end of January or sooner if possible.
Community Property Team Leader Rebecca van Orden said that while Council is happy and excited that the water loss has stopped and we can now open we do not feel 100% confident that we are completely out of the woods just yet.
This has been a very frustrating problem to solve and we still cannot say with absolute certainty where the bulk of the water loss was occurring from, she said.
It has been a slow process of methodically working our way around the pool trialling a fix and then waiting to see its impact.
We will be keeping a very close watch in case the water level starts dropping suddenly.
If this occurs we have chemicals on hand to neutralize the chlorine in the water.
Mrs van Orden said that the long term solution was still fiberglassing the inside of the pool.
Council is seeking confirmation from the community on doing this work in the Long Term Plan (LTP) that will be open for consultation from mid-March, she said.
