Council is hoping for a good turnout to a special public meeting being organised to discuss the proposed development plans for the Taumarunui Railway Station and options for the Hakiaha St public toilets.
The meeting is being held at the REAP office at 115 Hakiaha St at 6.00 pm on Tuesday 27 February.
Group Manager Community Services Margaret Hawthorne said that the Railway Station concept plans are separate from what has been consulted on already for the centre of town and the old library site.
With Council taking a favourable long term lease on the Railway Station building it had presented new opportunities for how the revitalisation along Hakiaha St could proceed, she said.
Township revitalisation projects including how much we should spend and on what are a big part of Council's ten year Long Term Plan (LTP) 2018-28 consultation over mid-March and April
With plans for the Railway Station building and new public toilets forming a large part of the proposed plans for Taumarunui we want to ensure that residents have a good understanding of what is being considered before the LTP consultation opens.
The Taumarunui Ohura Ward Committee (TOWC) will be considering four options for the future of Hakiaha St public toilets at their next meeting on 22 February which includes the original idea to build new toilets on the old library site, refurbishing the current toilet, building new toilets in the Railway Station or a combination solution.
Their preferred option will be known before the 27 February meeting which will provide an opportunity for people to provide their views on this and ask any questions they may have on this and the Railway Station concept plans.
Mrs Hawthorne said that Council has printed off a large format poster of the Railway Station concept plans that are on display outside the bus stop at the Railway Station.
We have also rehung the concept plans for the centre of town on the fence behind where the old library used to be.
Copies of both sets of concept plans are also available on-line via Council's website ruapehudc.govt.nz or from the Huia St office, she said.
End.
