NO COMPLAINTS OR REQUESTS FOR SERVICE FROM MARDI GRAS
Council staff are happy with how things went at the Ohakune Mardi Gras last weekend having not received a single complaint or request for service in relation to the event.
Environmental Health Team Leader Phoebe Harrison said that this was the first time in the history of Mardi Gras that this has happened.
Council would especially like to thank specialist cleaning and waste management services company Closed Loop for the great work that they did with this year's event.
Closed Loop had a goal of diverting over 70% of Mardi Gras' waste away from landfill and achieved a diversion rate of 83.1% a fantastic effort.
Thanks also needs to go to the Waimarino Pony Club who were engaged by Closed Loop to assist with the clean-up.
The team was collecting and had sorting rubbish throughout the event.
They started picking up rubbish from Saturday morning walking the streets surrounding the Mardi Gras venue area and within the venue itself through until the early hours before resuming again on Sunday morning
The end result was a total of 35.5m3 of waste collected and sorted into eight different waste streams for recycling or appropriate disposal and leaving the streets cleaner than before the event, she said.
