Rubbish bag pick-up Owhango, Raurimu & N.Park
Council is working with its solid waste contractor Envirowaste to organise a pick-up of official Council pink rubbish bags from Owhango, Raurimu and National Park on Monday 30 August if we are still at Alert level 4 next week.
Solid Waste Manager Dean Hosking said that the special pink bag pick-up is currently planned as a 'one-off' for these three small communities if we are still at Alert Level 4 on Monday forcing Transfer Stations to be closed.
"Owhango, Raurimu and National Park do not normally receive kerbside collection services and so many residents are reliant on the Owhango and National Park Transfer Stations for rubbish disposal," he said.
“We are able to add these additional pick-ups as the three townships are all along the usual SH4 route and because of extra capacity in the truck from not collecting recycling during Level 4.
Envirowaste will only be picking up official Council pink rubbish bags which people can purchase from New World Taumarunui or the National Park 4 Square if they need one.
If we are still at Alert Level 4 this coming Monday 30 August people in Owhango, Raurimu and National Park who want to make use of this opportunity should have their pink rubbish bag out kerbside ready for pick up by 8am.
We are asking that people do not put any recyclable material or food scraps in with their rubbish.
Both are bad for our environment and cost ratepayers as we need to ship all refuse to Hampton Downs south of Auckland.
Please hold onto your recycling until the Transfer Stations reopen for this service and bury or compost your food scraps.
If we move to Alert Level 3 people will be able to drop-off their pink rubbish bags at the Transfer Stations with the appropriate safety controls in place,” he said.
