TARGARALLY COMES TO RUAPEHU
Things got a lot faster around in Ohura today with the Ruapehu township being a starting point for one of the Targa Rally's 35 special closed stages.
Ruapehu Mayor Don Cameron had the 'honour' of driving the stage with 'Racing Ray' Williams, holder of the NZ road car land speed record of 316.929kph.
Ohura locals were also out in force to watch the rally cars which included NZ motor sport legend Greg Murphy who was driving in his first Targa Rally in a HSV GEN-F GTS.
This year's six-day Targa NZ event started in Auckland on (Labour Day) Monday October 26 and finishes in Palmerston North on Saturday October 31.
