NZOM for local tourism leader
COUNCIL CONGRATULATES LOCAL TOURISM LEADER FOR NZOM AWARD
Ruapehu District Council (RDC) had the pleasure of congratulating local visitor industry leader Kathy Guy for being awarded a NZ Order of Merit (NZOM) for her services to tourism and hospitality at its meeting in Taumarunui today (10 May).
Mrs. Guy has been involved in the tourism industry for over 25 years and is currently the General Manager of the iconic Bayview Chateau Tongariro at Mt Ruapehu and the resort complex of the Bayview Wairakei at Taupo as well as being the co-owner of scenic and charter flight operator Mountain Air with her husband Bhrent.
Ruapehu Mayor Don Cameron said that in addition to congratulating Kathy for her NZOM it was an opportunity to thank her on behalf of Council and local tourism operators for her contribution toward helping develop the Ruapehu visitor industry and our Regional Tourism Organisation (RTO) Visit Ruapehu.
It was Kathy's passion for tourism that encouraged Council to advocate for tourism to be added to the Regional Growth Study where we were appointed as the lead agency for researching the opportunities for the tourism and visitor sector, he said.
Her knowledge and tourism industry insights were invaluable in helping Council to make the commitment required to reprioritize funding to Visit Ruapehu and our economic development strategy.
Ruapehu tourism and Council owes Kathy a debt of gratitude for sharing her passion and her willingness help develop our tourism and visitor industry in a sustainable, environmentally friendly and culturally sensitive way.
End.
