SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FOR NORTHLAND, GREAT BARRIER ISLAND, AUCKLAND, WAITOMO, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY OF PLENTY, ROTORUA, TAUMARUNUI, TAUPO, GISBORNE ISSUED BY METSERVICE AT 0933hrs 29-Feb-2016
BURSTS OF HEAVY RAIN FOR NORTHERN PARTS OF THE NORTH ISLAND.
A very moist, sub-tropical airmass covers the North Island, bringing bursts of heavy rain or showers to northern New Zealand today (Monday) and Tuesday.
An extended period of heavier rain is expected about southern Auckland, Waikato and western parts of the Coromandel Peninsula and a warning is now in force.
This Watch is for the possibility of HEAVY RAIN approaching warning criteria (eg 50mm in 6 hours or 70mm in 12 hours) in the following areas...
Remaining parts of COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAITOMO, TAUMARUNUI, TONGARIRO NATIONAL PARK, TAUPO, ROTORUA, BAY OF PLENTY and the GISBORNE RANGES:
Until tonight (Monday).
Remaining parts of AUCKLAND, GREAT BARRIER ISLAND and NORTHLAND:
From this evening (Monday) until late morning Tuesday.
People are advised to keep up to date with forecasts in case parts of this Watch are upgraded to a Warning.
