The Council, in partnership with Te Korowai o Wainuiārua, is excited to announce that the concept design for the proposed Raethi Community Hub is well underway and is scheduled to be revealed in July.
Executive Manager of Community and Economic Development, Pauline Welch, said that the community will be invited to give feedback on the design at that time.
"Until the design is finalized this July, we appreciate the community's patience. Once we unveil the concept, we eagerly look forward to receiving input on all aspects of the proposal, including the location," says Welch.
"This hub is not only a collaborative effort with Te Korowai o Wainuiārua but a shared vision to create an inclusive space for everyone in our community."
The Raethi Community Hub is envisioned as a joint venture, reflecting joint decision-making processes between the Council and Te Korowai o Wainuiārua. Following thorough site evaluations and consultation, 2-4 Seddon Street has been selected as the recommended location due to its size, ownership status, and significant cultural connections to the surrounding landscape.
Ms Welch also notes, "We acknowledge existing road issues near the site, which need addressing. These infrastructure enhancements are essential and align with improvements planned for the Raetihi swimming pool facility."
"The Council and Te Korowai o Wainuiārua remain committed to ensuring that the Raethi Community Hub becomes a cornerstone for local engagement and a symbol of communal pride.
All community members are encouraged to contribute their views and help shape the future of this exciting project," she said.
