In response to community demand Council's Sustainability Facilitator Emily Jasmine has announced a series of 'Get Ready for Spring Pruning and Grafting Workshops'.
The workshops which are part of Council's ongoing sustainability education programme are planned for Waimiha, Taumarunui, Manunui, Raetihi, Owhango and Tokirima over July and August.
Emily said that anyone wanting to keep their fruit trees in top health and maximise their summer harvest should attend. "Now is the perfect time to prepare your trees for the spring bloom. By learning effective pruning and grafting techniques, you can maximize your summer harvest and ensure your trees remain healthy and productive for years to come," she said.
"The workshops are designed for everyone, from novice gardeners with no experience to gardeners with seasoned green thumbs. They are fun, free, and open to all. No bookings are required – just bring along your own secateurs, loppers, or hand saws, and any pruning questions you may have.
Participants will learn how to graft new fruit varieties onto existing fruit trees, which can significantly increase your crop of fruit and flowers. We'll also cover the basics of pruning for both fruiting and ornamental trees, ensuring that your trees remain healthy and productive."
Emily noted that by the end of the workshop, people will have gained the practical skills and confidence to prune their own trees, which will help extend their life and enhance their beauty.
Don't miss this opportunity to get your garden ready for a bumper harvest this summer!
