Mayor Weston Kirton had the opportunity to meet staff from Intrepid Travel who are being hosted by Visit Ruapehu to gain firsthand experience of what Ruapehu has to offer.
The team from Intrepid Travel arrived in Taumarunui via the Northern Explorer and were welcomed at Morero Marae before starting their trip in the North at the Timber Trail.
Over the next few days, the delegates will meet and experience a range of tourism offerings across the district such as the Whanganui River, Forgotten World, Mt Ruapehu, Tongariro & Whanganui National Parks.

Mayor Kirton said that the Intrepid Travel kaupapa represented the type of tourism Ruapehu wanted to encourage with a focus on sustainable tourism practices, responsible travel, and positively impacting the communities and environments in which it operates.
