Under current resource consent conditions these are the official flow recorders which manage abstraction for all of the Ruapehu District.
Water restrictions are notified to the Northern communities (Owhango, Taumarunui and National Park) by Ruapehu District Council when the Whanganui River at Te Maire approaches the minimum flow threshold of 29m3/second.
Water restrictions are notified to the Southern communities (Ohakune and Raetihi) by Ruapehu District Council when the Makotuku River at SH 49A Bridge approaches the minimum flow threshold of 115 litres/second.
