Lost Dogs
Call Council on 07 895 8188 to report a problem dog, or check our impounded dogs register to see if your lost dog is in the pound.
Our Compliance Officers respond to dog attacks and reports of aggressive dogs, and retrieve roaming dogs. If your dog is microchipped and registered and your contact details are up to date, we'll be able to reunite you quickly.
Is your dog in the pound?
Check the Impound Register
If you discover that your dog is missing, or if you find your dog on this register, please contact Council on 07 895 8188.
You will have to pay the pound fees at one of our Council Offices before you can pick up your dog. Council will only release your dog once we've confirmed it's registered and all fees are paid.
If your dog is microchipped and registered
If a registered microchip implant is found or the dog is wearing a registration tag, Council will contact the identified owner and try to reunite them with their dog during normal business hours. Therefore, we recommend that you call Council to check if your lost dog has been found, especially on weekends or a holiday period.
The law requires...
All impounded dogs to be held for at least seven days while the Council attempts to contact the dog owner, or the owner contacts the Council about the dog.
After the seventh day, if the dog owner has not claimed the dog, the Council assumes legal responsibility and ownership of the dog.
If an impounded dog is sick or injured, the Council will seek veterinary treatment/advice as required.
Owners of unclaimed dogs are required to pay registration and impounding fees including sustenance.
